Botallack Mine, St Just, Penzance, Cornwall

Tin mining in Cornwall had a long tradition which lasted from the early Bronze Age until the end of the 20th century. The Botallack Mine near St Just in the southwest of England was a submarine mine. In some places its tunnels extended under the sea for almost half a mile. The mine closed in 1895 as a result of falling tin and copper prices but its ruins have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006.
