Claude Louis, Comte de Saint-Germain, French general and minister of war, served under the elector Palatine, the elector of Bavaria, the Prussian and the Danish king, and fought for Hungary against the Turks; from 1775–1777 minister of war under Louis XVI. After his efforts to introduce Prussian discipline into the French army met with strong opposition, he resigned from office.
