The Berlin salon of Henriette Herz (1764–1847) brought together many politicians, scientists, artists, writers and philosophers, including for example the sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow (1764-1850), Wilhelm von Humboldt (1767-1835), Sophie Mereau-Brentano (1770-1806), Jean Paul (1763-1825) and Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834). Thus, many new contacts were made there, including between German and French guests. Rahel Levin (later Rahel Varnhagen), who herself subsequently established a famous salon, was among the participants.
