Shakespeare Memorial in Weimar

Ever since the 19th century, there has been great enthusiasm for William Shakespeare (1564–1616) in Germany. For example, a memorial for the playwright was created by Otto Lessing (1846–1912) and erected in Weimar, one of the centres of German classical literature, in 1904.
