St. Salvator Church in Munich

The St. Salvator (Saviour) Church in Munich today is the longest-standing Orthodox church building in continuous function in Germany. This former Roman Catholic church building was given to the Greek community in Munich by Ludwig I of Bavaria (1786–1868), a passionate philhellene. The renowned architect Leo von Klenze (1784–1864), who had constructed large building works in Athens after Greek independence, remodelled the church so that it would fit the needs of the Orthodox liturgy.
