The Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa

The Benedictine monastery of Saint-Michel de Cuxa goes back to the 9th century. It is located in the French Pyrenees, about 45 kilometres west of Perpignan. It was part of the Way of St. James and able to benefit from the influx of pilgrims coming from France across the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela. As a highlight of Romanesque architecture, it also demonstrates how this architectural style spread across Europe.
