Augsburg was an important stop along the migration route of many Salzburg Protestants. In the Augsburg pastor and theologian Samuel Urlsperger, who leaned towards Pietism, they found an eloquent advocate whose firm commitment and good contacts with European Protestants enabled hundreds of Salzburg Protestants to immigrate to the colony of Georgia.
