The Aid Society of German Jews (Hilfsverein der Deutschen Juden) incorporated in its annual reports photographs of Jewish transients from Eastern Europe who received support on their way along the main transit routes to North America. The aid society offered migrants advice, material support, shelter and food. The photos were meant to demonstrate to donors that the Aid Society was acting professionally and cared very well for Jewish transients.
