Located in northern Tuscany, the town of Bagni di Lucca, with its hot springs, was a popular spa town from the Middle Ages that attracted many distinguished visitors. German author Heinrich Heine (1797–1856), in the third part of his Reisebilder (Travel Pictures), raves about the spa where he spent a "most heavenly" time.
