With his Beiträge zur bildenden Gartenkunst, the Bavarian director of the royal gardens Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell (1750–1823) published the first German-language textbook on the landscape garden, which he expressly dedicated to "angehende(n) Gartenkünstler(n) und Gartenliebhaber(n)" (aspiring landscape designers and garden lovers). Sckell was the most important German garden and landscape architect of his generation. His elevated status in the service of the elector and king gave him many opportunities to realize his vision.
