A century after the discovery and occupation of America by Christopher Columbus (c. 1451–1506), Theodor de Bry (1528–1598) visualized the first encounter in an engraving. The fictitious scene illustrates an account (Americae Pars Quarta, Frankfurt 1594) by Girolamo Benzoni (1519–1570).
