The hot thermal springs near today's Bagno Vignoni in Tuscany were already known in ancient times for their healing properties. Later, Lorenzo de Medici (1449–1492), among others, took a cure there to alleviate his arthritis-related pain. Since 2004, Bagno Vignoni has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Val d'Orcia region.
