The diagram shows the distribution of the world’s most widely spoken languages. English and, lagging slightly behind, Mandarin were the languages with the most speakers (as mother tongue and second language) in 2022, followed closely by Hindi and Spanish with around 600/550 million speakers. French, Arabic, Bengali, Russian, Portuguese, Urdu, and Indonesian are each spoken by more than 200 million people.
