The Shrine of the Three Kings reliquary is used to store relics that were brought to Cologne in 1164. They are venerated as the relics of the Magi. The shrine is considered the largest and most elaborate extant reliquary. In the form of a basilica, the various ornaments – consisting of gold figures, precious stones, enamel, etc. – convey the history of salvation from the Old Testament to the Last Judgement.
