In Surrey, the fortifications of Sevastopol were recreated as large mock-ups, where they served as the backdrop for theatrical battles. The fall of the city was depicted here before it had even happened in reality. To make it appear as authentic as possible, invalids from the Crimean War were engaged to play themselves for a fee.
