This illustration of a pepper plant by an unknown artist was included in the famous botanical work Hortus Eystettensis (Eichstätt Garden), published in 1613. It described the plants in the garden by the same name created during the Renaissance period under Prince-Bishop Johann Konrad von Gemmingen in the Willibaldsburg in Eichstätt, Upper Bavaria.
