This woodcut of Venice shows the city centre with St Mark's Campanile in the middle and the Doge's Palace to the right. In the background the Italian mainland is visible while a number of gondolas and other typical Venetian boats are depicted on the Canale Grande in the foreground. The woodcut by the Dutch artist Erhard Reuwich of Utrecht (1445–1505) illustrates Bernhard von Breydenbach's travelogue Peregrinatio in terram sanctam from 1486.
