Five French franc coin with Hercules 1769

After the downfall of the radical Jacobin leader Maximilien Robespierre (1758–1794) in 1795, the Republic's new silver coinage was designed by Augustin Dupré (1748–1833). It depicted Hercules embracing the female personifications of liberty and equality.
