Henry Charles Carey (1793–1879)

Henry Charles Carey (1793–1879) was an important American economist who followed Alexander Hamilton (1757–1804) and Friedrich List (1789–1846) in outlining a national commercial and economic policy which was appropriate for a developing industrial nation. In Carey's view, tariff protection and state subsidies were necessary to establish a fully-functioning industrial sector.
