In the women's pavilion at the Centennial Exhibition in 1876, numerous display cabinets containing household objects such as furniture, portraits and clothes were arranged around a fountain at the centre of the space. All objects displayed came from the domestic sphere, the innovations of which were being suggested to the female visitors in particular.
