The image shows a Tirthankara statue in a Jain temple in Mumbai. The religion of Jainism originated around the 6th/5thcentury BC in India. Out of a total of about 4.4 million believers, about 4.2 million lived in India. Jains follow, among other things, the principle of non-violence. As a result, only certain professions are open to them, such as banking or commerce. Today, they often belong to the wealthy and educated classes of society.
