After the stock market crash in New York on October 25, 1929, the global financial crisis gradually gripped the majority of all industrialized countries, reaching its low point in 1932. In Europe, the recession resulted in mass unemployment (the picture shows a jobseeker in Germany) and political unrest. The sign in the picture reads "Will accept any work, as I have no other support".
