When it opened in 1892, the hydroelectric power station and pumping station in Schöngeising near Fürstenfeldbruck was one of the most modern power stations in Bavaria. Originally intended only to supply flowing water, the station also supplied the surrounding communities with electricity, thereby providing for the lighting of houses and streets. In the subsequent years, the station was reconditioned and upgraded a number of times.
