Landing at Ellis Island 1902

Emigrants who arrived in the United States by ship first set foot on American soil at Ellis Island, New York. The picture shows a group disembarking from the barge that took them from the steamship docks to Ellis Island. The new hospital, which opened in 1902, can be seen in the background, with the ferry that travelled between Ellis Island and New York anchored in front of it.
