The Marsh's Library in Dublin was founded in 1707 as the first public library of the country. The collection includes over 25,000 books from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries as well as ca. 300 manuscripts and around 80 books from before 1501. Subjects covered include among others medicine, law, science, navigation, mathematics, music, classical literature and theology.
