Mikhail Vrubel (1856–1910), The Blessed Virgin Mary With Child, 1885

This depiction of Mary with child by the Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel (1856–1910) combines elements of Byzantine and older Russion frescoes and mosaics with stylistic features of symbolist and Art Nouveau paintings. The artwork is part of Vrubels frescoes in the St. Cyril's Church of Kiev.
