The tomb of the family of Philip II in the basilica of Escorial was created by the Italian sculptor Pompeo Leoni and completed in 1598. To the right in the picture is Philip II with his fourth wife Anna of Austria (1549–1580). Left in front is Philip's third spouse Elizabeth of Valois (1545–1568) and in the background (covered) the king's first spouse, Mary of Portugal (1527–1545), with their son Don Carlos (1545–1568). To the left of the altar, another group of figures completed in 1597 shows the family of Charles V.
