The French educator, historian and sports official Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin (1863–1937) is considered the father of the modern Olympic Games. Starting in 1880, he campaigned for the revival of the Games and founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. He was president of the IOC between 1896 and 1925.
