Punch magazine - 1867 Lambeth Conference

The cartoon from the satirical newspaper Punch appeared in 1867 on the occasion of the first Lambeth Conference - named after the conference venue Lambeth Palace, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The large sack full of "dirty laundry" is full of the problems and contentious topics of the Anglican Church, which should be "washed clean" or clarified on the "Pan-Anglican washing day". Since its inception, the meeting of all Anglican churches has taken place every ten years.
