Santiago de Compostela, Spain, has been one of the world's most popular pilgrimage destinations since the first pilgrims arrived here in the 9th century. Today, it also attracts many non-Christian visitors. The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela stands on a burial site attributed to the Apostle James and is the destination of the highly frequented Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.
